In August 2014, the Patricia and Phillip Frost Museum of Science will be joining an International Glaciology Summer School in Alaska. Organized by the University of Alaska Fairbanks’ Geophysical Institute and International Arctic Research Center, and supported by the National Science Foundation, this course will involve scientists and graduate students from 9 countries who will converge on the tiny town of McCarthy, Alaska, at the foot of the mountains and glaciers of the Wrangell-St. Elias National Park. The course involves lectures from participating scientists on many aspects of glaciology, workshops from me on effective science communication strategies, interactive projects that students will be challenged to complete, and of course treks onto the nearby glaciers to see it firsthand. And of course, you can follow along with me and the scientists, live on this blog!
