East Siberian Sea

In this satellite image, summer is beginning to thin and crack the ice in the East Siberia Sea. (250m resolution image). Wrangel Island is at the upper right.

The East Siberian Sea consists of Arctic Ocean waters partially bounded by the northern coast of Siberia, the New Siberian Islands, and Wrangel Island, reaching nearly the far eastern tip of Asia. This sea is home to severe climate conditions, low water salinity, massive ice fields throughout most of the year, and it is one of the least researched areas of the Arctic Ocean.

Why has this region not been studied as closely as other regions?

How do conditions in this Sea affect other areas of the Arctic, and vice versa?

????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
